St.Benedict's showed their old prowess in the inter schools hockey arena when they emerged champions at the under 19 inter schools hockey tournament which was conducted by the Western Province Schools Hockey Association .
Benedictines defeated Royalists by (2) two goals to (0) nil in the final which was played at Reid Avenue recently.The score line stood at nil after full time of play and the succeeded during extra time through Captain Ashan Alles and Amantha Sandaruwan.Whole match was attacked by the Royal players,but the Benedictine Goal Keeper Shalintha Irugalbandara break the curse of not winning the championship.
They came into the finals with a clean record having defeated other schools with out giving Any single goal to their opponents.The Benedictines in winning the final played cohesive hockey and rattled their opponents with Ashan Alles,Anjula Fonseka spearheading the attack the goal keeper Shalintha Irugalbandara and Sameera Fonseka standing out in the defense department.
